Trump At War In The Gaurdian: “The Trump Films That May Swing The Midterms”

From The Guardian:

“You can say what you like about Donald Trump’s presidency … And that’s pretty much all the instruction the documentary film world has needed. So manifold are the contentious aspects of Trump’s brief reign, documentary makers of every persuasion have latched on to the subject. Like hibernating insects being awakened by the first breath of spring, here is the moment they have been waiting for: the onset of the all-important US midterm elections and awards season. The big guns of the genre are locked and loaded. Although, as we shall see, the Trump phenomenon has also attracted the very worst film-makers out there.

Rather than a test for Trump’s presidency, this could turn out to be a testing time for documentary itself. The intention for these films to sway hearts, minds and voting intentions. But let’s also admit that Trump sells because outrage sells. Trump has caused such disruption and division, and so brazenly made everything about himself, he seems to be the only story in town. With the stakes and the temperature raised, both his opponents and his supporters crave ammunition. (War metaphors are entirely appropriate.)

Foremost among this season’s batch is Fahrenheit 11/9, the latest from Michael Moore, whose title apes his anti-Bush doc Fahrenheit 9/11, and whose unofficial tagline is: “How the fuck did this happen?” As one of the few people who saw Trump’s 2016 election victory coming, Moore has earned the right to look for answers, but he’s by no means alone. Earlier this year, Hollywood and Broadway producer James D Stern, a self-confessed political junkie, conducted his own blue-state listening tour for his doc American Chaos. Meanwhile, in American Dharma, Errol Morris listens to just one person: Steve Bannon, former Trump strategist and “alt-right” firebrand. Morris has become something of a specialist in the no-frills, sit-down grilling of the big politico, having tackled former defence secretaries Robert McNamara (The Fog of War, which won the best documentary Oscar in 2004) and Donald Rumsfeld (The Unknown Known). Failing to land any killer blows, though, American Dharma does little more than give Bannon a platform.”

The Hill: Trump At War Will Make People Vote For Republicans

Wednesday, The Hill published a story about Stephen K. Bannon’s film, Trump At War, and his motivation for making the movie.

From The Hill:

“Former senior White House adviser Steve Bannon is hoping to rev up President Trump‘s base ahead of the midterms with a new documentary film slated to air on One America News Network Wednesday evening.

The movie, entitled “Trump @War,” highlights Trump’s work on foreign policy, trade and immigration while cautioning viewers that Democrats will likely attempt to impale his agenda and potentially impeach the president if they take back the House in November.

The pro-Trump film— which features commentary from former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, former senior White House aide Sebastian Gorka, Fox News’ Pete Hegseth and The Hill’s Joe Concha — uses imagery of Trump supporters being physically and verbally attacked.

It also gives a scathing depiction of the mainstream media and the left, using clips of pundits and Democratic lawmakers speaking out against the president.
There’s probably 20 districts that have to be held to hold the majority, and we’re doing the compilation with Citizens of the American Public, an analysis with Pat Caddell and John McLaughlin and all the pollsters to target specifically what districts and then basically carpet bomb this thing into those districts,” he told The Hill in an interview.
He added he thinks a win for Republicans would be a net loss of no more than 20 House seats, short of the 23 seats Democrats would need to flip the House.

“On the left, you have the Times Up movement, you have the resistance, you have Tom Styers Next Generation, you have an entire Netroots Nation — you know, independent expenditure groups that are out there doing a great job,” he said.

FOX: Bannon Says Trump Faces a “Coup”

Tuesday, Stephen K. Bannon, chairman of Citizens of The American Republic, was on Fox News to talk about his new movie “Trump At War”, premiering on OANN Wednesday, Sept 12, at 8 PM.  Bannon took the opportunity to talk about the challenges that face President Donald J. Trump.

From the Fox News article:

“Steve Bannon, the former White House strategist, told Fox News on Monday that he believes last week’s anonymous op-ed in The New York Times by a ‘senior’ White House official was likely developed by “six to a dozen” members of the administration.

“I don’t think there’s anyone author,” he told Laura Ingraham, host of “The Ingraham Angle.” “There are many voices in there … I think that’s a much broader conspiracy than people think. I think it’s probably six to a dozen people.”

Bannon, who left the White House last year, went on to decry the “absolutely outrageous” anonymous New York Times op-ed and urged the Trump administration to find out who were responsible for it,” reported Fox

“I mean, there is a coup, like saying there was a coup by General McClellan and his senior leadership in the union army to try to thwart what Abraham Lincoln wanted to do in the civil war.”

Newsweek: Bannon Returns To Roots

Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon looks set to make a political comeback a year after his departure from the White House with plans to release a new documentary, titled Trump @ War,  ahead of the November midterm elections.

The documentary centers around the division the U.S. and the rest of the world has seen in the wake of President Donald Trump’s inauguration, in January 2017.

In the 12 months since Bannon parted ways with the Trump administration, the former chief strategist seems to have divided his time between attempting to galvanize the extreme right wing in Europe, and working to re-ingratiate himself with the president after the pair’s widely covered falling out.

Rolling Stone: Bannon’s Movie And The Oscar

Since being booted from the White House and pushed out of Breitbart, Steve Bannon has devoted his time to boosting candidates like Roy Moore and, apparently, producing a new film, Trump @ War. President Trump’s former chief strategist debuted the trailer for his forthcoming “documentary” on Axios Thursday morning.

The clip features cameos from fellow ex-campaign manager Corey Lewandowksi, ex-White House aide Sebastian Gorka, Fox News’ Pete Hegseth and ex-Breitbart London editor Raheem Kassam, as well as footage of Antifa violence spliced with sound bites from Democrats like Tim Kaine, Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters.

According to Axios, the film, “part of a drive by Bannon to galvanize Republicans to embrace the midterms” is “designed to portray Trump supporters as being under siege — complete with clips of CNN’s Don Lemon, and footage of a Make America Great Again hat being burned.”
